Since 1987, when the company launched in Melbourne, Aesop has not wavered from its intention to create a range of superlative products for skin, hair and body. While we remain committed to including the highest-quality plant-based ingredients, we also make judicious use of non-botanical elements such as anti-oxidants, once we are confident that research has proven them safe and effective. The exquisite scents for which Aesop is renowned are an incidental treat.
Aesop values all human endeavours undertaken with intellectual rigour, vision, and a nod to the whimsical. We are now a global company, and continue to make every product with the same attention to detail that we believe should be applied to life at large, taking into consideration the needs of your skin, the specifics of your environment, and the constraints on your time. We advocate the use of our products as part of a balanced life that includes a healthy diet, sensible exercise, and a regular intake of good books.
The design of the Doncaster (Australia) shop creates a tactile chamber that stimulates the senses, in this way becoming an architectural folly, a destination for escape, within the hermetic conditions of the shopping centre. Soft colour and a palette of simple materials, tiles, plywood and steel, are subverted through unique applications of texture and composition to engage and uplift the customer. For example, the wall tiles are laid in a brick pattern that subtly shifts in plane and texture aiming to create a sense of movement within the space, metaphorically echoing a breeze through gum leaves, while the tiling also reminds the viewer of the rituals associated with bathing.
