Bike Shop's Unique Spin on Advertising

It’s hard to mistake what business they’re in. It’s of a bicycle shop in Germany. In lieu of a sign, the proprietors decided to advertise with a wall of real bikes. We’re not totally sure how Christian Peterson got all these bikes on his building’s façade, but he’s certainly given new meaning to the notion of a green wall. The co-owner of a bicycle shop in Altlandsberg (GE), Peterson decided to forgo the traditional storefront sign — instead he mounted his entire inventory of 120 bikes for passers-by to see. An ingenious way to advertise his shop, save some space, and promote green transportation, this too cool idea is definitely more impressive than anything an overpaid ad exec could come up with! The owner Peter Horstmann has said that his sales are up by 40% in one year compared to general German bicycle retail is down by 22%.

The Facade of Zara Fashion Store

This contemporary fashion boutique store interior plan of Zara fashion store in west London’s Westfield shopping centre (London, UK) has an interesting facade that was made from panels of Hi-Macs material. Designer Zara Estudio and fabricators Gruppo Candido Hermida chose Hi-Macs in a Toffee Brown hue, and combined it with a metal trim between the pieces. Using 81 panels of HI-MACS and 3 sheets of steel, the angles and 3-D shapes allowed them to create an intriguing effect.

Green Walls on a Shop

Herbaceous perennials grow from both the facade and interior walls at fashion retailer Ann Demeulemeester's flagship in Seoul (Korea). Designed by Korean-based architecture firm Mass Studies, the four-level structure (shop, multi-store and restaurant) is a grassy oasis of nature in an otherwise gray and dense city. The project's facade is made from a geo-textile planted with herbaceous perennials to form a living wall. The greenery is carried into the shop, incorporating nature whenever possible. The studio focuses on issues involving density and living in urban korean areas. The shop's location is in a residential neighborhood that is evolving into a shopping district. Aesthetically and physically, the structure is a vibrant breath of fresh air-plants are a natural air purifier after all.

Vertical Garden Store Front

One of Patrick Blanc's more recent vertical gardens in Paris (France) is at the BHV Homme branch of the famous Parisian department store, located in Le Marais on a side street behind the main … building. The wall was designed to make an impact from afar, adding life and color to a narrow, dingy street. Up close, the recently planted wall looks like an abstract work of art.
