Freudenhaus eyewear shop

FreudenhausBlog

Three distinctive areas have been carved out in this 230 m2 space. While the ground floor clear colors and shapes in white and yellow light up the room, the retail space in the basement impressed by its industrial character and the "crazy" children's world. Discover Freudenhaus in München (DE).

A retail design award for Hofstede Optiek

Envisioning the “shop as a stage”, the architects managed to create a highly original atmosphere as if taken from a fantasy movie: The new Hofstede salesroom had to be both entertaining and seductive, had to stimulate all the senses without being loud and vulgar. The concept had to embody the opposite of monotonous, overfilled shop windows and endless display racks inside. Discover more...

Modern optical store

This contemporary optical store is located in Lisbon (Portugal) and was designed by architect Jorge Sousa Santos in 2010. The main idea was to extend the exhibition to the whole area of the space. Since the space was big and the objects are small, the architect designs an exhibition device that could be extended in the whole surface of the walls. The exhibition elements form a net of vertical and horizontal prisms built in steel, MDF and Plexiglas. The notion of movement is immersed in all the elements that compose the store, the desks for private consulting, the counters, the cabinets. They exist in a suspended movement state, similar to the wall exhibition support. A comfortable lounge with leather sofas serves as a waiting room.

A new way of exhibiting eyeglasses

Jorge Sousa Santos designed a new optical store in Beja (Lisbon, Portugal) last year. The main purpose of the design was to create a sense of unity in the store’s interior, and to achieve a truly new way of exhibiting eyeglasses. This latter purpose was materialized by the multiplicity of round mirrors in the exhibition wall of the shop. These mirrors are a re-invention of the classic barbershop mirror, having a support for the glasses on one of its sides. The continuous exhibition wall that develops itself through two levels, intersecting an area on the first level and creating a spatial void, accomplishes the sense of unity. This notion of unity is also supported by the choice of materials, by the way some details are materialized and by the choice of the lighting. The acer wood floor becomes the supporting wall of the mirrors, the lacquered surface of the furniture envelopping the whole space in a way it becomes itself the visible surface of the wall.
