Fame Agenda
Involving concepts of ‘transparency and illusion’ and bringing customers minds in-between interior and exterior this store plays on the perspective of the ‘arcade’. A random and organic set of arches inspired by Thomas Heatherwick’s sculptural works merge to form a cave like enclosure from within the confines of the rectilinear shell. Providing intimacy and protection from the elevated & wind blown Docklands promenade the organic arches intend to shift the visitor inwards toward the end of the awkward ‘L ‘shaped plan & at the same time provide merchandising benches, walls and ceiling. The arches partially cover existing structural piers & terminate with mirrored cladding behind the sales counter seemingly extending the space and encouraging a play on perspective. The store presents its brand and hero through the use of strong architectural form and resourceful use of material. OSB panelling makeup the Fame Agenda (Melbourne, Australia) arches achieving a strong visual statement at low cost. Background walls are painted in a simple black gloss achieving a seeming infinity of depth. Materials combine rudimentary against slick, satin against glossy & provide an honestly & warmth carefully chosen so as not to overpower the product

USPA Flagship HQ

This project was to design and build a flagship headquarters for Uspa, combining their head office with a retail outlet, day-spa and professional training facility. The Melbourne (Australia) owned company locally produces organic skincare and spa products for the global market. The design of the retail space strongly reflects Uspa’s philosophy to create a sense of wellbeing and harmony using the best from nature. The uspa interior uses raw materials, organic tones and textures to evoke a sense of wellbeing and harmony. A seven-metre long, cocoon-shaped light sculpture made from willow reeds casts shards of light around the room, which has been decorated with hand beaten iron sticks and twigs. A wrought iron balustrade, shaped like a tree, connects the shop to the day spa upstairs. Cantilevered timber shelving, limestone walls, a natural bluestone hearth and recycled tallowood flooring create a simple, natural aesthetic. Source: USPA
