The world's largest shoe department

UK-based department store chain Selfridges has unveiled last Fall the world’s biggest (3,200 m2) shoe department named Selfridges Shoe Galleries in London (UK), designed by Canadian architect Jamie Fobert. Located on the second floor, the super-sized Shoe Galleries shows more than 4,000 shoes from 120 brands, including 35 new labels and more than 30 exclusive styles designed just for the retailer. And that's part of the beauty of this very 'equal opportunities' shoe celebration: the big designer names sit prettily alongside their more wallet-friendly cousins.
The ground-breaking space also includes 11 ‘apartment’ boutiques for premier labels like Christian Louboutin, Jimmy Choo, Chanel, Dior, Fendi, Prada, Gucci, Tod’s, Repetto, Ugg, Topshop, which are designed according to the labels’ unique style. The Chanel area is a recreation of Coco Chanel’s apartment, while the Christian Louboutin boutique boasts a red carpet and a trompe l’oeil chandelier. Ugg Australia hopes to inspire shoppers to buy its sheepskin boots with a chalet-style boutique, while Topshop’s is the brand’s first footwear department outside of its own stores. The department even has its own restaurant, an outpost of French eatery Aubaine, should you run out of steam mid-shop.

Coach has arrived in Paris

Famed American label Coach has arrived in Paris (France) last August, making its homestead at the Printemps Haussman.

Known for its leather goods which had become a byword in American craftsmanship since it was founded 69 years ago, Coach brings to Paris its distinctive style and quintessential American spirit.

In 1941, in a Manhattan loft, Coach began as a family-run workshop with six artisans handcrafting a collection of small leather goods using skills handed down from generation to generation. Originally called Manhattan Leather Bags, the name was changed to Coach during the 1960s when the company began making women’s purses.

Since its founding, discerning consumers recognized the unique nature of Coach craftsmanship and as the label’s fame grew, so does its reputation, finally emerging as America’s preeminent designer, producer, and marketer of fine accessories and gifts for women and men including handbags, women’s and men’s small leathergoods, business cases, weekend and travel accessories, outerwear, scarves, jewelry, fragrance and related accessories.

Le Printemps "Luxe et Accessoires"

The “Luxe et Accessoires” project started in 2009 is undoubtedly the bridge between the history of the Le Printemps department store (Paris, France) , and its new identity This redesign project, conceived and directed by architectural firm, Yabu Pushelberg, is centered around the opening up of the spacious lift shaft, the symbolic passageway between the heritage of Le Printemps (consisting of a hallway beneath the dome) and its new structure. A grand space right at the heart of the store, this spectacular nave, measuring 15m high, creates a dynamic vertical space, and successfully brings the three levels together. A series of escalators will add structure to the space, while still respecting the open-plan design.

On entering the Charras rotunda, shoppers will find an aerial mobile of white flowers – the work of artist, Pascale Girardin, and inspired by the motifs on the mosaics and the dome of the store. The rotunda is also the point of descent into the heart of the new space, with an escalator projecting over a monumental piece of artwork by Swade Hirotoshi.

The real heart of the store, however, is the central gallery. This space offers an incredible view across the entire store, and will be used for special events.
